Externally-Approved Events

The following national CPD events are external to the Royal College of Anaesthetists, and have been approved for CPD by the respective Medical Royal College or Faculty.

Events approved for CPD by the Royal College of Anaesthetists can be viewed in the online CPD system or via our online listing of CPD approved national events which is updated on a weekly basis.

Because of the wide range and variety of medical practice it is recognised that doctors working in one specialty may find it helpful to attend CPD events that are more usually appropriate for a different specialty. To facilitate this, CPD events approved by one Medical Royal College or Faculty may be accredited as part of the CPD for a doctor from a different College or Faculty without the need for a second accreditation process.

Further information on the standards necessary for CPD Accreditation can be obtained from the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges framework document.

The IMPACT Course is a two-day course introducing the principles and practice of acute medical care and related knowledge, skills, understanding and attitudes.

The course is aimed at CT1 and CT2 level doctors in acute medical specialties including Acute Medicine, Acute Care Common Stem (ACCS) and General Internal Medicine.

The course is open to delegates at FY2 level who are able to demonstrate a particular interest in pursuing a career in the specialties noted above. FY2 doctors must have completed at least eight months practice in acute medical specialties in their FY2 year before they can attend the course.

IMPACT enables trainee doctors to assess and treat acutely unwell patients and where appropriate gives guidance on when to ask for help. The course provides key point presentations, workshops, 'hands on' skills stations and critically ill patient teaching is given by experienced instructors in a supportive environment.

Designed by the Federation of Royal Medical Colleges and the Royal College of Anaesthetists, the course is endorsed by the Resuscitation Council UK and the Intensive Care Society. IMPACT has been successfully running throughout the UK since 2004.

For a list of up to date courses and centres please see the IMPACT website.
